😱 You Won’t Believe What Happened When Bethany Asked Larry About Their Marriage 😰

(Long Story)

It was late evening, and the house was unusually quiet. The sun had already set, and only the soft yellow light from the kitchen filled the hallway. Bethany stood near the kitchen counter, holding a cup of coffee that had already gone cold. She wasn’t really drinking it — she was thinking.

Larry had been distant for weeks.
Short answers.
Late nights.
Phone calls he would take outside.
And that look on his face… like something was bothering him, but he didn’t want to talk about it.

Bethany had tried to ignore it at first, telling herself it was just work stress. But deep down, she knew something wasn’t right.

That night, she finally decided she couldn’t stay quiet anymore.

She heard the front door open. Larry walked in, dropped his keys on the table, and loosened his jacket.

“Hey,” Bethany said quietly.

“Hey,” Larry replied, not really looking at her.

He walked toward the kitchen, opened the fridge, and grabbed a bottle of water. Bethany watched him carefully. Her heart was already beating fast.

“Larry… can I ask you something?” she said.

He stopped for a moment, then slowly closed the fridge.

“Yeah. What is it?”

Bethany took a deep breath.
This was the moment.

She walked closer to him and looked straight into his eyes.

“Are you still happy in our marriage?”

The question hit the room like a thunderclap.

Larry didn’t answer immediately. He just stared at her, like he wasn’t expecting that question at all.

“Where is this coming from?” he asked.

“Just answer me,” Bethany said. “Please.”

Larry walked past her and sat down at the table. He rubbed his face with his hands and sighed.

“That’s not a simple question,” he said.

Bethany felt her chest tighten.
“That means no,” she replied quietly.

Larry looked up quickly. “I didn’t say that.”

“Then what are you saying?” Bethany asked, her voice starting to shake. “Because you’ve been different. You don’t talk to me anymore. You’re always somewhere else, even when you’re sitting right next to me.”

Larry leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms.

“I’ve just been thinking,” he said.

“About what?” Bethany asked.

Larry hesitated.

“About everything. About life. About us. About whether this is the life I really wanted.”

Bethany felt like the floor disappeared under her feet.

“What do you mean?” she whispered.

Larry looked at her seriously now.

“When we got married, everything happened so fast. We didn’t really think about the future. We just… did it. And now years have passed, and I feel like we’ve been living the same day over and over again.”

Bethany couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“So you’re bored?” she said. “You’re bored of me?”

“That’s not what I said,” Larry replied.

“Then say what you mean!” Bethany snapped.

Larry stood up suddenly.

“I feel trapped sometimes, okay?” he said loudly. “I feel like I never got to choose anything for myself. Everything just happened, and I went along with it.”

Bethany’s eyes filled with tears.

“So our marriage is a mistake to you?” she asked.

Larry didn’t answer right away, and that silence hurt more than anything.

“I didn’t say it’s a mistake,” he said finally. “But I don’t know if we’re happy anymore.”

Bethany wiped a tear from her face.

“I was happy,” she said quietly. “I thought we were happy.”

Larry looked at her, and for a moment, he looked guilty.

“You don’t even talk to me anymore,” Bethany continued. “If something is wrong, why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I didn’t want to hurt you,” Larry said.

Bethany laughed sadly.

“Well, congratulations. You hurt me anyway.”

The room was silent again.

Then Bethany asked the question that changed everything.

“Do you still love me?”

Larry looked at her… and didn’t answer.

That silence felt like a knife.

Bethany nodded slowly, tears rolling down her face.

“That’s all I needed to know,” she said.

She turned and started walking toward the stairs.

“Bethany, wait,” Larry said.

She stopped but didn’t turn around.

“I never said I don’t love you,” he said.

“Then why couldn’t you answer?” she asked without turning.

Larry didn’t respond.

Bethany closed her eyes for a moment.

“I asked you about our marriage because I felt you slipping away,” she said. “I thought maybe we could fix things. But now I feel like I’m the only one who wants to fix anything.”

Larry looked down at the floor.

“I don’t know what I want anymore,” he admitted.

Bethany turned around slowly, her face full of tears.

“Well, I do,” she said. “I want a husband who is sure about me. Not someone who isn’t sure if he even wants to be here.”

Larry looked at her, but he had no words.

Bethany walked upstairs, and a few seconds later, Larry heard the bedroom door close.

He stood alone in the kitchen, staring at the empty hallway, realizing that one simple question about their marriage had just opened a door that might never close again.

And for the first time, Larry began to wonder if he had just lost the most important person in his life… just because he couldn’t answer one simple question:

“Are you happy in our marriage?
