The house was quiet — too quiet.
Bethany stood in the living room pacing back and forth, twisting her wedding ring with shaky fingers.
Larry was in the kitchen, pretending to wash dishes but really trying to calm himself down after another long, ugly argument.
But tonight?
Bethany wasn’t yelling.
She wasn’t crying.
She wasn’t even angry.
She was done.
She walked into the kitchen, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Larry… we need to talk.”
He sighed.
“Bethany, not tonight. I’m tired, we both need—”
“No.”
Her voice snapped sharp.
“I’m not here to talk about fixing anything. I’m here to tell you I want a divorce.”

Larry turned around slowly.
He stared at her like she had spoken in another language.
“A… divorce?”
His voice was shaking more than hers.
Bethany nodded, wiping a tear she didn’t want him to see.
“I can’t do this anymore. The lies. The drama. The fights. I don’t even recognize us.”
Larry laughed — a broken, painful laugh.
“You’re leaving? After everything YOU put me through?”
Bethany flinched.
He wasn’t wrong…
but she wasn’t backing down tonight.
“I already spoke to a lawyer. Papers will be ready this week.”
Larry blinked — slow, stunned, betrayed.
“You… what?”

He slammed the dish towel onto the counter.
“So you were planning this behind my back? Good to know you haven’t changed.”
Bethany’s voice cracked:
“Larry, stop. I don’t want to fight. I just want peace.”
He shook his head.
“You don’t want peace — you want control. You always have.”
She stepped closer.
“I’m asking for a divorce. I’m not asking for a fight. Please don’t make this harder than it already is.”
Larry stared at her for a long, heavy moment…
then walked past her without a word.
Bethany whispered after him:

But he didn’t.
He grabbed his keys and slammed the front door so hard the frames on the wall rattled.

Bethany assumed he’d go to the bar… or a friend’s house…
Maybe even his sister’s.
But no.
Larry drove somewhere no one expected.
He went straight to Sharra’s house.
He banged on the door like he had fire in his chest.
Sharra opened it, hair tied up, robe on, confused as ever.
“Larry? What the hell—?”
Larry walked in, pacing like he was about to explode.
“Bethany wants a divorce.”
Sharra blinked.
“…And you came here WHY?”
He sat down on her couch, hands shaking.
“Because you’re the only person who tells me the truth. The only one who doesn’t hide things from me. The only one who sees me as I am.”
Sharra’s jaw dropped.
“Larry… what are you saying right now?”
He looked up at her, eyes red.
“I’m saying I don’t want to fight for a marriage that’s already dead. I’m tired.”
Sharra didn’t say a word.
She just sat beside him and placed her hand softly on his shoulder.
For once… Larry didn’t pull away.
๐ฑ THE NEXT MORNING — THE BOMBSHELL
Bethany woke up expecting an angry phone call, a screaming match, something.
But instead… she received a message from Larry:
“If it’s divorce you want… you’ll have it.
But I need to tell you something first.
Meet me at 5.”
Bethany’s hands trembled.
What could he possibly need to say?
But when she showed up at the meeting spot —
a restaurant they once loved —
she froze.
Larry wasn’t alone.
Sharra was sitting beside him.
Calm. Silent. Unbothered.
Larry looked at Bethany with a cold, new face she’d never seen before.
“You want the truth? Here it is…
I’m not fighting for us anymore.
I’m done too.”
Bethany’s heart dropped into her stomach.
She whispered:
“Larry… please… don’t say you’re choosing her…”
Larry leaned back in his seat.
“I’m choosing peace.
And wherever that is…
it’s not with you anymore.”
Bethany broke.
Right there in front of everyone.
