Anthony Shocked to See That Amber Buy The Furniture for the Room of Kai!😱

Scene: The Living Room, Afternoon

(Anthony walks into the house carrying a few grocery bags. He stops abruptly when he sees a stack of new boxes labeled “Bedroom Furniture – Deluxe Set.”)

Anthony: (blinking in shock) …Uh, Amber? What is this?

Amber: (smiling proudly) Oh, hey, you’re back early! These are for Kai’s room!

Anthony: (jaw drops) Wait—what? You bought furniture… for Kai’s room?

Amber: Yeah! He needed a new bed and a proper study desk. His old stuff was so worn out.

Anthony: (sets the bags down slowly) I—I know that, but I didn’t expect you to just… go out and buy everything!

Amber: (shrugs) Well, it was on sale, and I wanted to surprise him. You should’ve seen his face when we picked it out.

Kai: (poking his head out from the hallway, excited) Anthony! Look, I even chose the color! It’s navy blue and white—matches the curtains!

Anthony: (turning to Kai, still bewildered) You were in on this?

Kai: (grinning) Of course! Aunt Amber said it’s time I had a “cool room.”

Anthony: (half laughing, half stunned) A “cool room”? Amber, that’s… that’s an entire makeover!

Amber: (crosses arms playfully) So? He’s growing up. He deserves it.

Anthony: (rubbing his temples) I just can’t believe you did all this without telling me first.

Amber: (teasing) If I told you, you would’ve said, “Let’s think about it,” and then we’d still be thinking about it next month.

Anthony: (raises an eyebrow) That’s called planning, Amber.

Amber: (grinning) And this is called action.

Kai: (laughing) She’s got you there, Anthony!

Anthony: (pretending to be stern) Oh really? So now you’re both teaming up on me?

Kai: (giggling) Maybe a little.

Anthony: (looks at the boxes again, then sighs) Well… I have to admit, it does look nice. Did you at least stick to the budget?

Amber: (avoids eye contact) …Define “stick to.”

Anthony: (eyes widening) Amber!

Amber: Okay, okay! Maybe I went a tiny bit over. But look—solid wood, high quality, built to last!

Kai: (excitedly) And it has built-in drawers! You can hide stuff in them!

Anthony: (snorts) “Hide stuff,” huh? That’s reassuring.

Amber: (laughing) Relax, Anthony. It’s not like he’s hiding secrets—he just means his comics and sketchpads.

Anthony: (finally chuckling) Alright, alright. I guess I can’t be too mad. Kai looks happy, and the furniture looks great.

Amber: (softly) That’s all I wanted—to make his space feel like his.

Anthony: (smiling warmly) You really went all out, huh?

Amber: (grinning) You know me—I don’t do halfway.

Kai: (throwing his arms around both of them) You guys are the best!

Anthony: (laughing) Just promise me next time I’ll get at least a heads-up before an entire furniture set appears out of nowhere.

Amber: (playfully salutes) Promise. …Probably.

Anthony: (groans) Probably?

Amber: (smirking) Depends on the sale.

(They all laugh as Kai excitedly starts opening the boxes, and Anthony shakes his head in disbelief but can’t hide his smile.)
Amber: (smiling softly) I told you. Sometimes surprises are good.

Kai: (calling out) Hey, can I open this last box? It’s heavy!

Amber: Sure, go ahead, just be careful—

(Suddenly, the sound of tearing tape echoes. Kai opens the box halfway—and freezes.)

Kai: (quietly) Uh… Aunt Amber?

Amber: (looking up) What’s wrong, honey?

Kai: (hesitant) I… don’t think this is furniture.

Anthony: (confused) What do you mean? What’s in it?

(Kai steps back as a faint metallic clink echoes from the box. Amber frowns and kneels beside it, lifting the flap.)

Amber: (whispering) What on earth…?

(Inside, beneath layers of foam and wrapping paper, there’s an old, scratched wooden chest — locked with a heavy padlock. There’s also a note taped to the top, written in red ink.)

Anthony: (reading aloud slowly)

“Property of Room 14. Do not open.”

(A cold silence fills the room.)

Amber: (in a low voice) This… wasn’t part of the order.

Anthony: (uneasy) Are you sure? Maybe the store sent the wrong package.

Amber: (shaking her head) No, Anthony… this came with our name on it.

Kai: (wide-eyed) Should we… open it?

(Anthony and Amber exchange a tense look. The room feels heavier, quieter.)

Anthony: (finally) No. We call the store first. Maybe they can explain this.

Amber: (still staring at the chest) Yeah… maybe.

(She reaches out, brushing her fingers against the rough surface of the wood—and jerks her hand back suddenly, eyes wide.)

Kai: (whispering) …Did you hear that?

(Amber stands up slowly, her voice barely above a whisper.)

Amber: I think… we just brought home something that doesn’t belong here.

(The lights flicker. The screen of Kai’s new desk lamp turns on by itself, casting a faint glow across the chest—just as the padlock clicks once, softly… as if unlocking on its own.)

Anthony: (backing away) Amber—don’t move.

(The final sound: the slow creak of the chest lid beginning to lift…)
